Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park is one of Tanzania’s most accessible wildlife areas. Though often overlooked in favor of larger parks like Serengeti or Tarangire, Arusha surprises visitors with its unique landscapes, rich variety of wildlife, and peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere making it perfect for a day trip or the start of a longer safari.
The park is best known for its diverse scenery. Within a single day, visitors can experience lush rainforests, open savannah, highland meadows, and the scenic beauty of Momella Lakes. Towering over it all is Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak, which offers challenging treks and incredible views of nearby Kilimanjaro on clear days.
Wildlife is abundant, especially in the forested areas and around the lakes. You’re likely to spot giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, and a variety of monkeys, including the black-and-white colobus rarely seen elsewhere. While big predators are less common here, the park offers excellent birdwatching, with over 400 bird species, including waterbirds and forest dwellers.
What sets Arusha National Park apart is its variety of activities including walking safaris, canoe trips, and mountain hikes which allow for a closer, quieter connection to nature than traditional game drives.
