Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park is a compact yet incredibly diverse park, offering a rich mix of landscapes and wildlife within a relatively small area. Often visited as part of a northern safari circuit, it’s an ideal stop for those looking to experience a wide variety of sights in a short amount of time.
The park is best known for its tree-climbing lions, a rare and fascinating behavior that draws wildlife enthusiasts from around the world. It’s also home to large groups of baboons, as well as elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, and countless antelope species. The shallow alkaline lake itself attracts thousands of pink flamingos, along with over 400 bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers.
Lake Manyara’s scenery is strikingly varied ranging from lush groundwater forests and open grassy floodplains to hot springs and steep escarpments of the Great Rift Valley. This variety not only supports diverse wildlife but also creates beautiful photo opportunities throughout the park.
While smaller than some of Tanzania’s other parks, Lake Manyara offers a peaceful and scenic safari experience that combines wildlife, birdlife, and dramatic landscapes in a single day’s visit.
